stagnation is always the precursor to decline

135 Minutes of Commute: Boogie Man Song -- Mos Def
See me, want me, give me, trust me
Feed me, fuck me, love me, touch me
This whole world is cold and ugly
What we are is low and lovely
I am the most beautiful boogie man
The most beautiful boogie man
Let me be your favorite nightmare
Close your eyes and ill be right there

To quote FernandesVat19:

"...the best way to go about getting old is to focus primarily on a healthy mind that is open to, and actively desires, learning everyday. One of the downfalls of human beings is their predilection for learning up to a point and then cementing their views; stagnation is always the precursor to decline, which is why I always strive for perfection even if I am already perfect. You can see the flaws of the older generation as the future generation will be able to see yours, unless you live your life thinking ahead of your time, thus preempting them."

Kuperstein, Zana and I touched on this over the weekend as we spoke of Tom Cruise and his cry against "psychosomatic" drugs: the more knowledgeable one is, the more likely one is to realize that he or she does not know everything, and indeed knows very little. This is, of course, not an argument for the end of learning based on what a daunting task it would be to learn everthing, but rather a push FOR learning with a caution against any resulting heady sense of entitlement.

On a somewhat related note, here are my very quick 2-cents on the london attacks: why were all the news stations solely interested solely on the number of deaths and injuries? Instead of asking pertinent questions like, "who could have lead the attacks?" and "why?", the reporters kept saying "only 2 reported deaths but there are rumors of more...", and then they'd interview anyone and everyone and ask if he or she saw/heard of any more deaths. Good god! Are we that morbid? Are we that easy to fool into worrying about the (relatively) unimportant matters of an issue. Where are the real questions, America?
